FAQ

Dormant company questions

Does a dormant company need to file accounts in Ireland?+

Yes. Every company on the register, trading or not, files a B1 annual return with the CRO each year with accounts attached (except the first). For a dormant company those are dormant accounts, which we prepare as part of Dormant Compliance.

Does a dormant company file a CT1?+

If the company is registered for corporation tax, Revenue expects a CT1 each year even when there is nothing to declare. Dormant with CT1 covers the nil return. If the company was never registered for corporation tax, no CT1 is due.

What if I plan to start trading soon?+

Tell us before the first sale. We'll review your Revenue registrations, add VAT or employer PAYE where needed, and move you onto a trading package so bookkeeping starts from day one.

Would it be better to close the company?+

If you don't expect to use the company, a voluntary strike-off can remove it from the register and end the yearly filing cost. It suits companies with no debts and no assets. We can talk through both options on a free call; the right choice depends on your own plans.
